Objectives:

Educational

Ø  To practice using the vocabulary of civilization.

Ø  To listen to a TV programme, understand the speaker’s opinion and doing exercises.

Ø  To practice using multi-part verbs.

Development:

Ø  To develop students’ knowledge and respect to other country’s history and culture.

Ø  To develop communicative activity of the student.

Bring up:

Ø  To bring up to love and honor foreign languages.

Ø  To respect the culture of other countries.

Type of the lesson: combined

The Form of the lesson: traditional

Resources used: slides with photos of Mesopotamia, electronic book, CD

Troubleshooting: Students may have problems understanding. You may play the recording several times if necessary for students to complete the exercises successfully.

Background:

The Mesopotamia is a blanket name for the different civilizations that developed in what is now Iraq between the Tigris and the Euphrates. The Sumerians were the world’s first urban civilization and emerged in the fourth millennium BC in Lower

Mesopotamian Empire which was established in 2,300 BC. Upper Mesopotamia was the home of another civilization called the Assyrians whose capital was Nineveh. Nineveh had royal libraries containing thousands of clay tablets which provide the best surviving sources for ancient Mesopotamian history.
