Background:
The Mesopotamia is a blanket
name for the different civilizations that developed in what is now Iraq between
the Tigris and the Euphrates. The Sumerians were the world’s first urban civilization
and emerged in the fourth millennium BC in Lower
Mesopotamian Empire which was
established in 2,300 BC. Upper Mesopotamia was the home of another civilization
called the Assyrians whose capital was Nineveh. Nineveh had royal libraries
containing thousands of clay tablets which provide the best surviving sources
for ancient Mesopotamian history.
